Coretta Scott
Coretta Scott King was an activist, musician, and civil rights leader who co-led early campaigns alongside her husband, MLK Jr. Following his assassination in 1968, she founded the King Center, championing nonviolent social change, women’s rights, LGBTQ+ equality, and global peace. Her tireless advocacy successfully established Martin Luther King Jr. Day as a U.S. federal holiday, solidifying her role as a civil rights icon.
