Henry David Thoreau
Henry David Thoreau was a 19th-century American thinker, writer, and naturalist, representing the Transcendentalist movement. He wrote "Walden" based on his self-sufficient life at Walden Pond, advocating for coexistence with nature and a simple way of life. He also refused to pay taxes in protest of slavery and the Mexican-American War, proposing the philosophy of "Civil Disobedience," which significantly influenced posterity's environmental thought and nonviolent resistance movements.
