Lydia Maria Child’s Literary Activism

Lydia Maria Child was a female abolitionist active as a writer and editor. In her 1833 book, *An Appeal in Favor of that Class of Americans Called Africans*, she severely criticized slavery, stirring major debate in northern society. She continued her journalistic activities advocating for the equality of women and Black people, and became widely known in the fields of domestic and children's literature as well.
