John Davis
John Davis was a prominent English navigator who conducted three Arctic voyages from 1585 to 1587 seeking the Northwest Passage, charting the Davis Strait, Baffin Island, and Greenland. In 1592, he joined Thomas Cavendish's expedition and is credited with discovering the Falkland Islands. Beyond exploration, Davis invented the Davis quadrant and authored "The Seaman's Secrets" in 1594, significantly advancing navigational science. He died in 1605 during a skirmish with Japanese pirates in the East Indies.
