Andries van Wesel
Born on December 31, 1514, in Brussels, Belgium, Andries van Wesel (Andreas Vesalius) was an anatomist and physician who transformed the study of human biology. By performing direct human dissections, he challenged and corrected ancient Galenic medical teachings. His masterwork, "De humani corporis fabrica," published in 1543, featured remarkably detailed anatomical illustrations and direct observations, laying the cornerstone for modern scientific anatomy.
