Nogi Maresuke at Port Arthur Siege

Nogi Maresuke at Port Arthur Siege

Nogi Maresuke

A distinguished Chōshū army general, Nogi Maresuke famously commanded the grueling siege of Port Arthur during the Russo-Japanese War. Despite suffering catastrophic casualties, his forces captured the critical 203 Hill. His subsequent ritual suicide upon the death of Emperor Meiji became a defining cultural symbol of bushido and loyalty.
