Zheng He and the Seven Great Voyages
Zheng He was a Ming dynasty admiral, diplomat, and court eunuco who commanded seven monumental treasure fleet voyages between 1405 and 1433. Commissioned by the Yongle and Xuande emperors, his massive fleets navigated Southeast Asia, India, the Persian Gulf, Arabia, and East Africa. These expeditions established Chinese diplomatic presence, expanded the tributary trade system, suppressed piracy, and demonstrated Ming naval power across the Indian Ocean, leaving a lasting legacy on Asian maritime history.
