Milan Kundera: Master of Literary Irony

Born in Brno in 1929, Milan Kundera was a world-renowned novelist whose brilliant works, such as "The Unbearable Lightness of Being," sharply exposed the absurdity and oppression of totalitarian regimes. Initially an idealistic participant in Czechoslovakia's intellectual circles, he faced severe political persecution, including book bans and university expulsion, following the Prague Spring and Soviet invasion. In 1975, he emigrated to France, where he continued to explore complex themes of memory, exile, and human freedom from the safety of the international stage.
