Horatio Gates: Hero of Saratoga

Horatio Gates (1727–1806) was a military officer who served as a general in the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War. Commanding American forces particularly at the Battle of Saratoga in 1777, he achieved great fame by securing the surrender of the British army. This victory became an important turning point that prompted France's entry into the war. On the other hand, he suffered a defeat at the later Battle of Camden, leading to widely mixed evaluations. He was a figure who played an important role as one of the military leaders of the Revolutionary War.
