Ahmed I
Sultan from 1603 to 1617, Ahmed I altered traditional succession practices by sparing his brother's life. He commissioned the iconic Sultan Ahmed Mosque (Blue Mosque) in Istanbul and supported scholarship, calligraphy, and poetry while managing ongoing conflicts with the Habsburgs and Safavids.
