Robert Morris: Financing the American Revolution and Nation-Building

Robert Morris (1734–1806) was a businessman and politician active during the American independence era, known as the "Financier of the Revolution." As superintendent of finance for the Continental Congress during the American Revolutionary War, he was in charge of fundraising and greatly contributed to securing war funds. He also participated in the Constitutional Convention, engaging in the institutional design of the new nation. However, due to speculative failures after the war, he went bankrupt in his later years. He is valued as an essential figure who supported independence from an economic standpoint.
