Yu Seong-ryong and Leadership in the Imjin War
Yu Seong-ryong was a distinguished Neo-Confucian scholar and Chief State Councillor who served as a primary political and military leader during the Imjin War. Following the academic lineage of Toegye Yi Hwang, he directed wartime administration, advocated for the recruitment of strategic commanders like Yi Sun-sin, and coordinated alliances with Ming China. He spearheaded military reforms, including the establishment of the Hullyeondogam. In his post-war memoir Jingbirok, Yu analyzed wartime errors and governance challenges, leaving a vital historical account for future national defense.
