Wang Dayuan and His Maritime Expeditions
Wang Dayuan was a Yuan dynasty merchant and traveler who conducted two major maritime voyages across Southeast Asia, South Asia, and the Indian Ocean in the early 14th century. Departing from Quanzhou, he documented the geography, local products, trade practices, and customs of over a hundred regions. His work, the *Daoyi Zhilüe*, serves as a crucial primary source for understanding pre-modern Asian maritime trade networks, regional geography, and early Chinese merchant communities in places like Temasek (Singapore).
