As Secretary of State in the Truman administration, he was a great politician and lawyer who defined modern American Cold War diplomacy. Furthermore, he spearheaded the creation of NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization), establishing a defense network for Western nations. By deciding to intervene in the Korean War, he laid the foundation for a powerful global strategy to counter the Soviet threat as a main pillar of the Cold War.
