Clara Zetkin: Champion of Working Women and Anti-Fascism
Clara Zetkin, born on July 5, 1857, in Wiederau, Saxony, Germany, was a Marxist theorist, communist activist, and pioneer of the international women’s movement. As editor of the SPD women’s newspaper Die Gleichheit from 1891 to 1917, she integrated working-class women's rights into socialist politics and proposed the establishment of International Women's Day in 1910. Opposing World War I, Zetkin co-founded the Spartacus League alongside Rosa Luxemburg and later joined the Communist Party of Germany (KPD). Serving in the Reichstag, she advocated a united front against fascism until fleeing to the Soviet Union following the Nazi rise to power.
