Jean-Paul Sartre

Jean-Paul Sartre was a leading French philosopher and writer whose existentialist framework dominated post-war European thought. He emphasized individual freedom, radical responsibility, and the rejection of predetermined human essences. Throughout the Cold War era, Sartre balanced his philosophical inquiries with active political engagement, critiquing Western colonialism and engaging with Marxist ideas. His public stands and literary works made him a central, often controversial voice in the intellectual debates concerning ideology and social justice.
