Simone de Beauvoir

Simone de Beauvoir was a French existentialist philosopher, writer, and feminist icon whose seminal work The Second Sex revolutionized modern thought. By asserting that one is not born, but rather becomes, a woman, she dissected systemic patriarchal oppression and the social construction of gender. Alongside her long-term intellectual partnership with Jean-Paul Sartre, Beauvoir contributed significantly to post-war debates on freedom, ethics, and social liberation, leaving a lasting legacy on global civil rights movements.
