William Adams
William Adams was an English navigator who became the first Englishman to reach Japan in 1600 aboard the *Liefde*. Impressing Tokugawa Ieyasu with his knowledge of shipbuilding and navigation, Adams served as a trusted foreign advisor, helped construct Japan's first Western-style vessels, and facilitated trade agreements with England and the Netherlands. Honored as a samurai under the name Miura Anjin, he played a crucial role in early Anglo-Japanese diplomatic and commercial relations.
