Turgut Reis: Fearless Ottoman Admiral and Ruler of Tripoli

Turgut Reis was a distinguished Ottoman admiral, corsair commander, and governor of Tripoli born near Bodrum. Rising under Hayreddin Pasha, he fought extensively against Spanish, Venetian, and Knights Hospitaller fleets across the Mediterranean. He played pivotal roles in major victories like Preveza and Ponza, and famously captured Tripoli in 1551, converting it into a central Ottoman naval and administrative stronghold. Granted the title of Pasha, he fortified coastal defenses and urban infrastructure before mortally suffering artillery wounds during the Great Siege of Malta in 1565.
