Key coordinator of the Sarajevo assassination
Danilo Ilić was a Bosnian Serb teacher, journalist, and nationalist activist who served as a primary organizer of the 1914 Sarajevo Incident. Active in Young Bosnia and linked to the Serbian secret society known as the Black Hand, Ilić played a crucial logistics role by recruiting conspirators—including Gavrilo Princip, Nedeljko Čabrinović, and Trifko Grabež—and distributing weapons and bombs for the attack on Archduke Franz Ferdinand. Arrested shortly after the assassination, Ilić was tried for high treason and murder in Sarajevo. Because he was over twenty-one years old at the time of the offense, he was sentenced to death and executed by hanging on February 3, 1915.
