William Edward Burghardt Du Bois
William Edward Burghardt Du Bois is a figure who led 20th-century American Black thought as a sociologist, historian, and civil rights activist. In The Souls of Black Folk, he proposed the "double consciousness" concept to analyze the Black experience in a racially discriminatory society. Besides participating in the founding of the NAACP to drive the civil rights movement, he criticized imperialism and colonialism and operated as a central figure in the Pan-Africanism movement.
