Pioneering Optics and Wave Mechanics
Christiaan Huygens was a prominent Dutch mathematician, astronomer, physicist, and inventor born in The Hague. A leading figure of the Scientific Revolution, he formulated the wave theory of light, invented the pendulum clock to improve timekeeping precision, and conducted significant mathematical analyses of mechanics. In astronomy, Huygens discovered Saturn's largest moon, Titan, and correctly identified the nature of Saturn's rings. His contributions linked international scientific communities through his key involvement with the Royal Society and the French Academy of Sciences.
