Heinrich Schütz: German Master

Born in Bad Köstritz in 1585, Heinrich Schütz was the most prominent German composer of the early Baroque period. Studying under Giovanni Gabrieli in Venice, he successfully integrated Italian polychoral techniques into German Lutheran church music. His vast legacy includes over 500 surviving sacred and secular works, bridging Renaissance tradition and early Baroque innovation prior to J.S. Bach.
