Henry Cabot Lodge Jr.’s Role

Henry Cabot Lodge Jr. was a Republican politician and diplomat from the prominent Lodge family who served as U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations and U.S. Ambassador to South Vietnam after serving in World War II. As an important figure in Cold War American diplomacy, he was deeply involved in the United Nations and Asian diplomacy, and was also nominated as Richard Nixon's vice-presidential running mate in the 1960 presidential election. He symbolizes the internationalism of the New England elite.
