Marshall Plan Leadership and Western Postwar Recovery Strategy
George Catlett Marshall Jr. was an American military leader and statesman who served as Army Chief of Staff during World War II, Secretary of State, and Secretary of Defense. He spearheaded the European Recovery Program, known as the Marshall Plan, which rebuilt postwar Western European economies, fostered democratic stability, and countered Soviet expansion. For his diplomatic efforts, Marshall was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1953.
