Georg Spalatin
Georg Spalatin was a German humanist, reformer, and key diplomat born in Spalt in 1484. As secretary and court chaplain to Elector Frederick the Wise of Saxony, he served as a crucial liaison between Martin Luther and the electoral court. Spalatin provided essential political and diplomatic protection to Luther during the Reformation's precarious early years. He actively assisted in organizing the Evangelical Church in Saxony and documented regional history, playing a vital behind-the-scenes role in safeguarding the Protestant movement.
