Maria von Spanien
Born in Madrid in 1528 as an Infanta of Spain, Maria married her cousin Archduke Maximilian in 1548 and later became Holy Roman Empress. She actively participated in state affairs, serving as Regent of Spain during crucial political absences. Devoted to her Catholic faith, she guided the upbringing of sixteen children, nurturing prominent Habsburg figures including future emperors Rudolf II and Matthias. After her husband's passing, she moved to Madrid's Monasterio de las Descalzas Reales, remaining a powerful matriarch within European dynastic politics.
