Andreas Karlstadt
Andreas Karlstadt was a pioneer of radical reform born in Karlstadt am Main around 1486. An early ally of Martin Luther at Wittenberg, Karlstadt soon adopted more radical positions, advocating iconoclasm, vernacular liturgy, and lay communion. His aggressive reforms created sharp divisions with Luther, leading to his exile from Saxony. Karlstadt later migrated to Switzerland, spending his final years teaching Hebrew at the University of Basel. His radical theological stances significantly influenced subsequent Anabaptist and Swiss Reformed movements.
