Martin Bucer
Martin Bucer was a major Protestant mediator and reformer born in Sélestat in 1491. Based in Strasbourg, he tirelessly worked to unite conflicting Protestant groups, particularly mediating debates between Lutherans and Swiss Reformed theologians on the Eucharist. He authored the Tetrapolitan Confession and influenced the 1536 Wittenberg Concord. Forced into exile following the Augsburg Interim of 1548, Bucer spent his final years as Regius Professor of Divinity at Cambridge, deeply impacting the theology and liturgy of the Church of England.
