Abigail Adams

Abigail Adams (1744–1818) was the wife of second President John Adams and one of the representative intellectuals of early America. During the Revolutionary War, she was known for advocating the expansion of women's rights and legal equality through letters addressed to her husband. The letter in which she stated "Remember the Ladies" is particularly famous and is valued as a pioneering thought for later women's rights movements. Delivering sharp social critique from a position close to the center of politics, she demonstrated the intellectual presence of women during the founding period of America.
