Mercy Otis Warren

Mercy Otis Warren (1728–1814) was a Massachusetts-born writer, historian, and female intellectual who provided ideological support to the American independence movement. As the sister of James Otis Jr., she was influenced by her brother and sympathized with anti-British thought. During the Revolutionary War, she defended the colonial stance through satirical plays and political writings, and later authored History of the Rise, Progress, and Termination of the American Revolution. She is valued as a pioneering figure who influenced early American political thought as a woman.
