Friedrich Naumann
Friedrich Naumann was a prominent German Protestant theologian, political theorist, and liberal politician who left a lasting mark on early 20th-century political thought. He sought to bridge social reform, Christianity, and liberal nationalism by founding the National-Social Association and co-founding the German Werkbund. During World War I, Naumann developed the influential concept of "Mitteleuropa," advocating for German economic and political leadership in Central Europe. Following the war, he co-founded the German Democratic Party and served as a member of the Weimar National Assembly. His efforts to synthesize social responsibility with democratic liberalism helped shape the intellectual foundations of the early Weimar Republic.
