Hermann Göring

Hermann Göring was a top Nazi leader, commander-in-chief of the Luftwaffe, and one of Adolf Hitler's closest associates. A celebrated World War I fighter ace, he helped Hitler gain power, created the Gestapo, and established early concentration camps. As head of the Four-Year Plan, Göring directed the militarization of the German economy. During World War II, he commanded air operations, though failing air campaigns weakened his standing. Designated as Hitler's successor, he was appointed Reichsmarschall in 1940. Convicted of war crimes at the Nuremberg Trials, he committed suicide before his scheduled execution.
