Hayreddin Pasha: Grand Admiral and Defender of Ottoman Seas

Hayreddin Pasha, widely known in Europe as Barbarossa, was a legendary Ottoman grand admiral born on Lesbos. After expanding corsair power in North Africa with his brother Aruj, he was appointed Kapudan Pasha by Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent. Hayreddin modernized the Ottoman fleet and secured total naval dominance in the Mediterranean by defeating the Holy League at the landmark Battle of Preveza in 1538. His strategic leadership and military alliances, including joint operations with France, cemented Ottoman maritime supremacy throughout the sixteenth century.
