Albrecht von Haller
Albrecht von Haller was a Swiss physician, physiologist, botanist, and poet born in Bern, widely celebrated as a father of modern experimental physiology. A student of Boerhaave, he served as professor at the University of Göttingen where he established an anatomical theater, botanical gardens, and obstetrical facilities. Haller conducted pioneering experiments demonstrating muscle irritability and nerve sensibility as fundamental bodily properties. He systematically documented Swiss flora in landmark texts like "Flora Helvetica" and wrote "Primae lineae physiologiae," deeply influencing 18th-century medical science. Additionally, his famous poem "Die Alpen" contributed significantly to German natural poetry.
