Charles Gordon
Charles Gordon
Charles Gordon was a British Army officer who earned fame as "Chinese Gordon" for his leadership during the Taiping Rebellion. In 1863, he took command of the Ever Victorious Army, a European-officered force of Chinese soldiers. Working alongside Qing imperial commanders, Gordon orchestrated a series of tactical victories across the Yangtze delta, recapturing rebel strongholds and playing a key role in suppressing the rebellion. Honored by the Qing emperor, Gordon became a celebrated figure in Britain, personifying military skill and imperial ambition before his later death at the Siege of Khartoum.
