John Paul Jones: Father of the U.S. Navy

John Paul Jones (1747–1792) was a Scottish-born naval commander who moved to America and played an active role in the American Revolutionary War. Using bold tactics in naval battles against the British Royal Navy, he is also known for the words "I have not yet begun to fight." Supporting the founding era of the U.S. Navy, he is also called the "Father of the U.S. Navy." After the war, he was active in Europe as a diplomatic and military advisor, becoming a symbolic figure of the modern U.S. Navy.
