John Hancock: Bold Signer and Patriot

John Hancock (1737–1793) was a politician and businessman from the Massachusetts Bay Colony who was an influential figure supporting the American independence movement. Known as the person who first made a large signature on the Declaration of Independence, his signature became iconic. During the American Revolutionary War, he also served as President of the Continental Congress, contributing to colonial unity. After the war, he led politics as Governor of Massachusetts, devoting himself to the stability of the young nation. His name remains widely known today as a word meaning "signature."
