Georg Büchner and Revolutionary Literature
Georg Büchner was a visionary German playwright, scientist, and revolutionary thinker born in Riedstadt. Despite dying of typhus at just 23, he left an enduring mark on world literature and radical politics. Influenced by French revolutionary ideas, he co-founded the clandestine Society for Human Rights in 1834 and co-authored "Der Hessische Landbote" with Friedrich Ludwig Weidig, famously declaring "Peace to the huts! War to the palaces!". Fleeing arrest to Strasbourg and later Zurich, he completed groundbreaking literary works including "Danton's Death," "Lenz," and "Woyzeck," which profoundly shaped modern expressionist and naturalistic drama.
