Napoleon Bonaparte
Napoleon Bonaparte rose to power through exceptional military victories during the French Revolutionary Wars, seizing control of France in the Coup of 18 Brumaire in 1799. As First Consul and later Emperor, he revolutionized warfare and conquered much of Continental Europe through triumphs like Austerlitz and Jena. Beyond his campaigns, Napoleon implemented enduring administrative reforms, including the Napoleonic Code, which established civil law principles across Europe. His disastrous 1812 invasion of Russia weakened his empire, leading to his 1814 exile to Elba. Following a dramatic escape during the Hundred Days, his final defeat at Waterloo in 1815 resulted in permanent exile to Saint Helena, leaving a legacy that transformed world history.
