Shimon Peres and Decades of Statecraft
Shimon Peres
Shimon Peres was a foundational Israeli statesman whose political career spanned over six decades. Entering public service as an aide to David Ben-Gurion, he built Israel's defense capabilities and nuclear program as Director General of the Defense Ministry. Over his long career, he held key cabinet posts, served as Prime Minister, and later as President. A key architect of the 1993 Oslo Accords, he shared the Nobel Peace Prize with Yitzhak Rabin and Yasser Arafat. Peres remained a persistent advocate for technological innovation and regional peace until his death in 2016.
