Chaim Weizmann's Wartime Diplomacy

Chaim Weizmann's Wartime Diplomacy

Chaim Weizmann

Born in Motol in 1874, Chaim Weizmann was a visionary chemist and Zionist leader whose wartime efforts proved pivotal to the Zionist movement. During World War I, his development of a synthetic acetone production process vital for British munitions earned him significant influence within British political circles. Leveraging this standing, Weizmann played a central role in securing the historic Balfour Declaration of 1917, which endorsed a Jewish national home in Palestine. As head of the World Zionist Organization and later the Jewish Agency, he led international diplomatic efforts through World War II, eventually contributing to the 1947 UN Partition Plan and serving as Israel's first president.
