William Averell Harriman

After graduating from Yale University, he transitioned from business to politics, becoming a venerable figure of the Eastern Establishment who guided American foreign strategy during the Cold War. Counted among "The Wise Men," he directly confronted Stalin as Ambassador to the Soviet Union during World War II. In the post-war era, he oversaw the implementation of the Marshall Plan, served as Governor of New York, and spearheaded the negotiation of the Partial Nuclear Test Ban Treaty under the Kennedy and Johnson administrations. Armed with immense wealth and seasoned diplomatic skills, he was a giant who continuously anchored the front lines of the U.S.–Soviet confrontation.
