Hirohito
Hirohito
Hirohito, known posthumously as Emperor Showa, reigned as Japan's monarch and supreme commander under the Meiji Constitution throughout World War II. While approving military operations during the war's expansion, he ultimately intervened as the war situation deteriorated. In August 1945, he issued the "sacred decision" to accept the Potsdam Declaration, announcing Japan's surrender directly to the public via a historic radio broadcast. Under the post-war Constitution, Hirohito transitioned to a symbolic monarch, touring the country to foster national unity and democratic reconstruction.
