Fumimaro Konoe

Fumimaro Konoe was a high-ranking aristocrat who served three terms as Prime Minister of Japan. His first cabinet saw the escalation of the Second Sino-Japanese War after he issued statements refusing to negotiate with Chiang Kai-shek's government. He launched the New Order Movement, replacing political parties with the Imperial Rule Assistance Association, and signed the Tripartite Pact during his later cabinets. Shortly before the war's end, he presented a memorial to the Emperor urging early peace. Indicted as a Class-A war criminal in 1945, Konoe committed suicide.
