Shukri al-Quwatli

Born in Damascus in 1891, Shukri al-Quwatli served as Syria's first and third president. He led anti-French protests, secured international backing after the 1945 Damascus bombardment, and achieved complete French troop withdrawal on Evacuation Day in 1946.
