James Monroe
James Monroe (1758–1831) was a politician who was active from the founding era of the United States and led the nation through a period of stability as its 5th president. He promoted national reconstruction following the War of 1812, and in foreign policy, he articulated the "Monroe Doctrine" in 1823, rejecting European interference in the Americas. This policy became a fundamental principle of subsequent U.S. foreign policy. He is also known as a president who symbolized domestic political stability during the "Era of Good Feelings."
